Create a new WIKI page using your initials and the name of your novel(s) as the title. Link it to your main page.
As you read your story, pay attention to the following:
Name the major character(s). Name the minor character(s). In what ways do the minor character(s) affect the main character(s)?
What decision(s) has a character made that you totally disagree with. Tell why you disagree with it.
How does this story change your thinking?
Answer:
1. The major character of the story is Henry, which is a B-24 pilot for the US Air Force. The minor characters in the story so far is, Billy, Dan MacNamara, Sergeant Bromsky, the schoolhouse teacher, Patsy, Henry's mom, and Henry's Dad. The minor characters are beginning to affect Henry in the story already. Billy affects Henry because they always fight about which life is better. Henry's mom affects Henry because he misses her warm blueberry pie. Henry's Dad also affects Henry because he was the reason why Henry left to join the Air Force. His dad always competed against him and was harsh on him. The schoolhouse teacher affects Henry the most later in the story. When Henry's B-24 crashed and he was the only survivor, the teacher found him and took care of him. When Henry was only partially healed, the teacher, along with his best student's father, snuck Henry to a hospital in Bern.
2. I disagreed with Henry getting in a fight with Billy in the story. This could lead to loose relationships and they may not trust each other in battle, which could get them killed. I also disagree with the decision that Henry made when he left to join the Air Force. The reason why Henry left was because he wanted to escape his father's rough attitude towards him. I believe that the most important reason why a person should join the US armed forces, is that they want to protect the freedom of their country. Also, Henry's decision to join the Air Force could sadden his family and friends, and could cause discomfort to him too.
3. This story changes my thinking towards my family. I feel blessed to have such great parents unlike Henry's father. I also would like to thank all of the veterans who served in World War Two. It must have took a lot hours of preparation and was probably very nerve-racking. I also think that it was amazing that the French Resistance groups can smuggle soldiers with such skill.
reat reflections, Ryan. I especially like your reasons for joining the Armed Forces. I agree with you that serving and protecting a country should be the main reason - sad that Henry feels he has to prove something to his father. I'd say they have a broken relationship. How wonderful that you realize how lucky you are to have such a loving family. Sometimes it takes children a long time to come to that realization; you already have! Good for you!

Ryan Duffey Reading 8-8 3/19/12 Book Review Have you ever thought about what happened outside of the World War ll? Then Under a War-Torn Sky is the book for you. It was written by L. M. Elliott and published by Hyperion Books for Children, New York in 2001. After a massive plane crash, Henry Forester struggles to survive to return back home to Patsy and his family. With the Nazis all around Henry, each time I picked up the book, I was on the edge of my seat. Filled with suspense, this book was one of my favorite World War ll books I have ever read. Under a War-Torn Sky is a war novel and displays suspense and action that makes you want to read more. Did you know that there were French resistance fighters that helped out Americans, British, and other Allied groups that got trapped behind enemy lines. Even with the French Resistance groups helping Henry, there were very close calls and Henry even got caught by the Nazis twice in the process. I always thought that the smuggling process was very slow. Instead, they moved Henry from place to place very quickly with no break. Each Resistance fighter risked their lives to help one person get to safety. The theme of Under a War-Torn Sky is suspense. The lesson that I learned from the book was that you should appreciate all the good things people do for you. In the sequel, A Troubled Peace, Henry appreciates what the Resistance fighters did for him and tries to make sure they are all right. If I were caught in a situation like Henry’s, at the end of the war, I would make sure that all of the resistance fighters are all right also. A recommendation would be to read the sequel of the book.
